Dr. Alberto Emilio Montalvo is a board-certified Internal Medicine and Critical Care physician specializing in the care of patients with complex and life-threatening illnesses. His clinical interests include respiratory failure, shock, mechanical ventilation, multiorgan dysfunction, and neurocritical care, with a particular interest in neurologic emergencies and acute brain injury.
Dr. Montalvo is also certified in Critical Care Echocardiography. This advanced expertise allows him to evaluate heart function, circulation, and the interaction between the heart and lungs directly at the bedside, helping guide timely and individualized treatment for critically ill patients.
He earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and his fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dr. Montalvo also serves as Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the Texas A&M University School of Medicine, where he participates in educating and mentoring future physicians.
Originally from Roma, Texas, Dr. Montalvo was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley and has deep family roots throughout the region. His commitment to caring for the people of South Texas is both professional and personal.
